IEEEXtreme 17.0

IEEEXtreme 17.0 IEEE Xtreme 17.0, the esteemed global programming competition, unfolded on the 28th of October 2023 with 359 participants engaging in an exhilarating 24-hour coding marathon. In this global challenge, teams of 3 to 5 IEEE members, each advised and proctored by an IEEE member and supported by an IEEE Student Branch, compete against each other to solve a set of programming problems and gain local and global ranks, certificates, and prizes. Hosted by the IEEE Student Branch of Informatics Institute of Technology, this rigorous event took place within the premises of the IIT School of Computing. Notably, participants not only gathered physically but also connected online to partake in this extreme programming challenge. PrologueX Hackathon The preXtreme hackathon, organized by the IEEE Student Branch of IIT, took place on the 21st of October 2023. This event served as a precursor to the IEEEXtreme 17.0 global challenge, offering participants a glimpse into the rigors they would encounter during the 24-hour marathon. Held at the premises of Exactpro Private Limited, the hackathon drew the participation of 150 individuals. Teams of participants collaborated to tackle programming challenges presented through the HackerRank platform. Awards were distributed based on the teams’ rankings, reflecting their problem-solving and collaborative skills. This hackathon provided a valuable opportunity for aspiring competitors to sharpen their abilities and prepare for the upcoming IEEEXtreme 17.0 challenge. IEEE Day 2023 On October 8th, 2023, IEEE Day gathered 150 individuals at the IIT School of Computing premises for a memorable celebration. Hosted by the IEEE Student Branch of IIT, the event offered attendees a rich and engaging experience. The day commenced with a leadership development session, where participants had the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge. Following this enlightening session, the quiz contest brought participants together in a friendly competition, testing their knowledge on different topics. As the day progressed, the energy soared with an irresistible dance floor. Vibrant music filled the air, prompting everyone to join in the spirited dancing. Inception

INCEPTION Inception 2023/2024 (Inception’23) marked the Installation ceremony of the IEEE Student Branch of Informatics institute of Technology, along with its esteemed chapters; the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, and the Women in Engineering affinity group on September 15, 2023.   This momentous occasion holds significance in the academic calendar, marking the transition of leadership and the start of a new term filled with promise and innovation. The presence of distinguished guests added prestige to the event. Mr. Dhammika Maransinghe, Vice Chairperson of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, and Ms. Naomi Krishnaraja, Dean of the IIT school of computing, graced the event as Chief Guest and Guest of Honor, respectively. Go Back IX 23July 2023 IX 23, the third iteration of IX, Sri Lanka’s first-ever online inter-university designathon, unfolded as a transformative event that harnessed the power of Extended Reality (XR) to reshape UI/UX solutions. This two-phase journey exemplified the fusion of creativity, technology, and global goals. In the initial phase, participants embarked on a mission to provide ingenious UI/UX solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the World Health Organization. What set this phase apart was the incorporation of Spatial UI concepts, inspired by Apple’s visionary Vision OS Design standards. This amalgamation of purpose-driven objectives and innovative design principles set the tone for the entire designathon. The culmination of IX 23 was the exhilarating final round, an intense 24-hour physical designathon that demanded participants to create XR-based spatial UI/UX solutions tailored to a specific scenario. This phase required not only technical prowess but also rapid ideation, collaboration, and adaptability. The zenith of the event materialized with participants showcasing their XR-based solutions to a panel of esteemed judges during the grand finale. The presentation of immersive solutions, finely tuned through the 24 hours of iteration and collaboration, captured the spirit of innovation and dedication that defined the event. Ultimately, the top three teams emerged triumphant, their exceptional ideas and designs recognized and celebrated. IX 23 not only marked a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s technological and design landscape but also stood as a testament to the potential of XR in shaping the future of UI/UX solutions. As the first XR-based UI/UX designathon in Sri Lanka, IX 23 not only expanded horizons but also fostered a community of forward-thinking designers and creators who will undoubtedly leave their mark on the evolving world of technology and design. CodeSprint 7.0 emerged as the most funded event, captivating both sponsors and participants alike. It brought forth 300+ groundbreaking software ideas that will spark the future of technology. After facing intense competition with over 300 exceptional teams in 4 phases, the top 5 finalists have been chosen by multiple industry professionals after their innovative work was evaluated at each phase The event served as a platform for emerging tech talents to demonstrate their skills, collaborate with industry experts, and showcase their potential. The participants displayed remarkable problem-solving abilities, creativity, and a deep passion for technology. One of the key highlights of CodeSprint 7.0 was the Grand Finale, where the top finalists pitched their groundbreaking solutions to a distinguished panel of judges. The atmosphere was electric, and the finalists’ presentations left the audience in awe. The event was graced by renowned individuals from the tech giants, including CEOs and industry leaders, who witnessed the incredible talent and potential of the participants. Aquathon

Go Back AquathonMay 2023 Aquathon is a mini-hackathon that is newly presented by the IEEE Student Branch of the Informatics Institute of Technology with the aim of introducing undergraduate freshers to the world of hackathons. This mini-hackathon is exclusively for all Level 04 students at the Informatics Institute of Technology who are new to the technology field and eager to experience challenges. The insufficient idea about hackathons and less hackathon experience among fresh undergraduates are the major reasons for this new initiative. This is a six-hour mini-hackathon consisting of fifteen programming questions in order to deliver a vast idea about the structure of hackathons, where those questions are categorized into easy, medium, and hard type questions. IEEEXtreme 16.0

Go Back IEEEXtreme 16.0October 2022 In the past years due to the rise of the pandemic, it was not possible to have the IEEEXtreme programming competition physically at IIT. However, since the country’s restrictions on staying isolated were loosening, we took the opportunity to conduct IEEEXtreme physically by hosting the physical hub at IIT GP Square. Furthermore, we also provided an online participation option and thus made the event more accessible to participants.
