About This Event
VECTRA is a premier cybersecurity competition organized by the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of the Informatics Institute of Technology in collaboration with Legion Offensive Security. Billed as an eight-hour "King of the Hill" battleground, the 2026 event was themed "Enter the Dark Side of Tech" and was exclusively designed for university students across Sri Lanka. Moving beyond traditional Capture the Flag formats, VECTRA challenged participants to adopt a dual mindset hunting vulnerabilities and breaching systems to capture assets, while simultaneously defending their conquered ground against rival teams.
The campaign unfolded in three distinct stages: Learn, Qualify, and Conquer. It kicked off with a virtual awareness session on August 1, 2026, followed by a physical workshop on August 8 that introduced hands-on tradecraft such as reconnaissance, exploitation, and blue-team countermeasures. On August 9, teams of up to four members competed in a highly competitive one-hour Capture the Flag selection round to earn their spot in the finals. The qualifying squads then attended an advanced online workshop on August 11, diving deep into privilege escalation, persistence mechanisms, and advanced red-teaming tactics.
The initiative culminated in the Grand Finale on August 15. During this intense eight-hour competition, finalists navigated eight unique King of the Hill platforms, with a new target environment igniting every hour. Teams had to rapidly analyze systems, find vulnerabilities, and secure their positions in a fast-paced, real-world simulated environment. Ultimately, the event crowned three champion teams who demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, strategic thinking, and teamwork.
